The UK has recently discovered mindfullness on mass. In Thailand it's old news. Students sit morning and afternoon for silent meditation, breathing slowly to the calming "Sa baiiii" tune ("I'm well"). I join in on Friday; awkwardly because my skirt is probably a little too short to sit cross legged. Five minutes sat sucking air in slowly and feeling the relaxtion of exhaling is like mentally stroking all your senses; nudging each one so that you truly wake up to the day.
The school is particularly keen to ensure that their students are given the most nourishing education. Not least through meditation but through the sensitivity to each student's learning styles. Most recently they've painted all the desks different colours on recommendations from the Education Ministry in Thailand. Each colour is meant to suit a different learning character, and in addition to brightening up the traditional brown classroom, it has reported deeper benefits for a students academic performance.
It's also proved really helpful for me as a quick and fun way to test students on their colours!
