I wake up and realise I have a lesson first thing which I haven't planned for. I curse myself for lazily having spent the evening chatting and faffing around. I eat my rice and fried chicken breakfast far too quickly, and sit trying to chew through ideas but resign myself to a Friday of games rather than anything too serious.
Oddly, it's disconcertingly quiet when we arrive at school. There's none of the usual fanfare being played over the loudspeakers and only a sprinkling of students are wondering around tidying as they normally do. With nearly 60% of the student population Muslim and today marking the end of Ramadan, only a smattering of students file out for morning assembly.
Relaxing as I realise that the hands of fate have saved my skin from what would have been a pretty patchy lesson, I in fact spend the morning taking selfies with P'Som, who is set to leave next Thursday, cooking lunch with the students (since the kitchen staff are Muslim too) and learning a lot of bitty Thai phrases with the students who burst into giggles every time I attempt to repeat their words.
